Spirit River UV2 Fine Dry Dubbing is built around a simple idea: real insects reflect ultraviolet light, and trout see ultraviolet light. A dubbing that responds the way the natural does fishes better than one that only matches color to the human eye.
Each shade is a blend of primary colors enhanced with UV fluorescence and UV reflectance dyes, then blended with other fibers to dial in the base color while keeping the multi-color UV properties that define the UV2 line. Each color throws off a host of spectrums — check them in direct sunlight and the difference is immediately visible.
Tying tip from Spirit River: for maximum effect, always tie over a pearl or silver Mylar under-body, or even basic white thread. The reflective base bounces incoming light back out through the dubbing at a different wavelength, amplifying the UV signature of the finished fly.
