It Started With a Vise.
Ed LeViness has always been a fly fisherman at heart. Like a lot of passionate anglers, he spent his evenings at the tying bench — crafting flies, refining patterns, and dreaming about the next morning on the water. When a local machine shop that made his favorite fly tying vise asked if he'd sell their vises, Ed said yes. He cleared some space in his basement, and Ed's Fly Shop was born.
That was 2010. What started as a side project fueled by passion has grown into one of Colorado's most respected fly shops — with over 10,000 SKUs, a full guide service, and a reputation built one happy angler at a time.
In 2019, Ed's Fly Shop opened its doors at 432 E Main Street in Montrose, Colorado — right in the heart of some of the best fly fishing country in the West. The Gunnison River, the Uncompahgre, the San Miguel, the Gunnison Gorge — we have world-class water in every direction, and we've been fishing all of it for years.
We're anglers first. Every person on our team fishes. When you call us or walk through our door, you're talking to someone who was probably on the water last weekend and knows exactly what's hatching right now. That's something no big-box retailer can offer.
We serve anglers of every level — from the person picking up a fly rod for the very first time to the seasoned angler chasing trophy browns in the Gorge. We'll help you find the right gear, point you to the right water, and if you want, we'll take you there ourselves.
