Uncompahgre River Fishing Report
Updated July 3, 2026
Current flows: Uncompahgre at Colona 92 cfs
Pa-Co-Chu-Puk (Below Ridgway Reservoir)
Paco is fishing fair to good, but fish are still technical. Flows are very fishable, and a stealthy approach is important. Smaller flies, light tippet, and careful presentations will make a big difference. Yarn indicators, small dry-dropper rigs, and light nymph rigs are good choices when fish are spooky.
Fly selection: JuJu Baetis #18-22, Demon Midges #18-24, zebra midges #18-22, cased caddis #14-18, Griffith's Gnats #20-22, rainbow perdigons #18-22, black leeches #14-18, small pheasant tails #18-22. Recommended rod: 8-9' 4wt or 5wt.
Uncompahgre Town Section (Montrose)
The tunnel is on and there is good water moving through town. Fish are less spooky with the additional flow, and they are willing to eat larger nymphs and streamers. Focus on soft edges, slower pockets, structure, and inside seams. This is a good local option right now.
Fly selection: Black leeches #12-16, pheasant tails #14-18, blowtorches #16-20, Pat's Rubber Legs #10-12, hot head perdigons #12-16, caddis nymphs #12-14, and streamers like Kreelex, Woolly Buggers, and Mini Peanut Envies #6-10. Recommended rod: 9' 5wt.
