UTC Ultra Wire Medium, Assorted Colors — One of the Most-Used Materials in Fly Tying
UTC Ultra Wire is a key ingredient in so many successful fly patterns that it has become one of the most often-used materials on the tying bench. This is the medium size in an assorted color selection, giving you a working range of colors for a wide spread of patterns.
Its most familiar role is as a rib on nymphs — it is the essential material for John Barr's famous Copper John, and gold Ultra Wire is a natural fit for Hare's Ear nymphs, while black and brown are common ribbing choices on stonefly nymphs. But the wire does far more than ribbing. Flies can be tied completely from Ultra Wire, as with the all-wire Iron Midge, and you can wrap two colors together for a banded, segmented body or run the wire through stretch tubing for a distinctive segmented look.
Because Ultra Wire is a non-tarnishing wire, the colors stay rich, vibrant, and true for the full life of the fly in your box. No matter what you are tying, there is a size and color of Ultra Wire suited to it.
