Echo Ion Fly Reel
One of the best values in fly reels under $115. The Echo Ion combines a large arbor design with a hybrid machined and cast construction to deliver real performance at a price that's hard to beat. Six sizes cover everything from small stream trout to two-handed steelhead and tarpon-class fly lines. If you're building your first setup, picking up a reliable backup, or outfitting a niche rig you don't want to break the bank on, the Ion is one of the smartest buys in the lineup.
Hybrid Machined and Cast Construction
The Ion uses a hybrid build process — cast aluminum alloy that's then machined to finish — to deliver the durability and feel of a higher-end reel without the higher-end price tag. The frame and spool are built tough enough for daily use, with stainless steel internal components and an impact-resistant matte black anodized finish that holds up to long days on the water.
Designed primarily for freshwater, the Ion can handle occasional saltwater use as long as you rinse and lubricate it after each day in the salt.
Maintenance-Free Rulon Disc Drag
The Ion's Rulon disc drag delivers smooth, dependable stopping power with low start-up resistance — meaning the drag engages cleanly without that initial jerk that can pop tippets on big fish runs. The system is maintenance-free and backlash-free thanks to a one-way roller clutch bearing, with a positive position click drag knob and audible incoming and outgoing clicks.
For two-handed anglers, an optional solid brass drag knob is available to help balance the longest spey rods.
Large Arbor Design
The Ion's large arbor spool design speeds line pickup and reduces line memory, making it a great match for modern fast-action rods. Six sizes ensure there's an Ion to balance single-hand rods from 2 weight up through two-handers and big-game 12 weight setups.
