Simms rates the G3 Guide BOA and the standard G3 identically — 4 out of 5 traction, 5 out of 5 ankle support, the top of their freshwater range alongside the G4 Pro. The only difference is the closure. It comes down to whether you want the dial, and to how your foot likes even pressure versus lace tension.
We stock the BOA in Vibram and felt, and the standard lace-up G3 in both as well — you are welcome to put them on side by side.
Rubber or felt? Rubber is the responsible default in Colorado; felt carries whirling disease spores and didymo between drainages far more readily. Studs recover most of felt's grip on slick freestone. Clean and dry your boots between rivers either way.
Sizing: boots go over your wader booties, so Simms says size one full size up from your street shoe, and half sizes round up. Bring your waders and try them on over the top — call 970-964-9991 and we will have sizes pulled and ready.
Warranty: defects in workmanship and materials covered; wear damage repaired for a reasonable fee. Simms's 60-day and one-year terms apply to waders only, not footwear.
