If you want the Bailout's tanto blade without the maintenance bargain the M4 versions ask for, this is the one. CPM-MagnaCut at 60-62 HRC is a modern powder steel that gets close to tool-steel edge retention while staying genuinely stainless — the closest thing the knife world currently has to not having to choose.
It matters more than it sounds. The M4 Bailouts will spot if you put them away wet. This one will not. If the knife lives in a fishing pack, rides in a truck through winter road salt, or gets carried against sweat all summer, MagnaCut is the correct answer and it is the same $350.
Burnt Copper anodized 6061-T6 handles, black Cerakote blade, 2.7 ounces. The tanto grind puts mass behind the tip for piercing and prying work, and the AXIS lock runs on twin omega springs so it opens and closes one-handed from either side.
The serrated version cuts webbing, rope and seatbelt far better than a plain edge, at the cost of being much harder to sharpen at home. Plain edge is the better all-rounder for most people.
