The 940-1 is the Osborne with the weight taken out and the steel upgraded. Carbon fibre handles bring it down to 2.44 ounces — nearly half an ounce lighter than the aluminum version — and the blade steps up to CPM-S90V.
S90V carries roughly three times the vanadium of S30V, which is what gives it its edge retention. It stays sharp noticeably longer through abrasive work. It is also stainless, so the improvement costs you nothing in maintenance. What it costs is sharpening time when it finally does dull, and $50 over the aluminum version.
The reverse tanto profile is unchanged — mass behind the tip, long flat belly, the geometry that made the 940 famous. Satin finish, carbon fibre weave, and the same 7.87" open length.
This is the configuration most collectors settle on.
