If you only ever own one Benchmade, most people who know knives would tell you to make it this one. The 940 has been in continuous production since 2003 and it is the knife the company is best known for.
Warren Osborne's reverse tanto blade is the reason. Instead of the point sitting on the centreline, the spine drops at an angle to meet the edge, which puts real steel behind the tip while leaving a long, flat belly for slicing. It opens boxes and dresses game and cuts cord equally well, which is not something most blade shapes manage.
Green anodized 6061-T6 aluminum, purple anodized spacer, satin CPM-S30V blade. It weighs 2.9 ounces and disappears in a pocket. S30V is stainless and forgiving — no special care required.
This is the original configuration at the original price. Everything else in the Osborne line is a variation on it.
