The CLA — Composite Lite Auto — was Benchmade's first automatic with a non-metallic handle, and it is still the sensible choice in the category. Push the button and the blade fires; the safety locks it closed for carry.
G10 scales instead of aluminum keep it to 3.47 ounces, which for an auto of this size is light. Textured green and black, grippy without being abrasive in a pocket.
The blade is 154CM at 58-61 HRC. That is a mid-tier stainless rather than one of the super steels — easier to sharpen than S30V and perfectly adequate for what an auto gets used for, which is mostly opening things one-handed while the other hand is full. It is the reason this sits at $300 rather than $400.
