The Griptilian is the knife Benchmade sells more of than anything else, and it has been in the line since 2003 for a straightforward reason: it does the job and it is hard to break.
The handle is glass-filled Grivory with a moulded texture — not the most premium material Benchmade offers, deliberately. It is light, it does not care about water, and if it gets scratched up you will not mind. That makes it the sensible choice for a knife that lives in a tackle bag or a truck door rather than a display case.
CPM-S30V blade at 58-60 HRC, stainless and forgiving. The AXIS lock opens and closes one-handed from either side and is fully ambidextrous, and the clip is reversible for tip-up carry on either hand.
Three blade choices. The sheepsfoot has a blunt, rounded tip and a completely straight edge — safer around a boat, and it will not puncture what you are cutting through. The drop-point is the general-purpose shape with a usable tip for detail work. The serrated drop-point tears through rope, webbing and netting far better than a plain edge but is much harder to sharpen at home.
