Why siping matters: the razor cuts across the outsole open as the sole flexes, pushing water and mud out from under the tread instead of letting it act as a lubricant. Same idea as a snow tire, and it is the difference between gripping a wet deck and going down on it.
Care: wipe with a damp cloth, cold fresh water only, no solvents. Pull the insoles and dry away from direct heat.
