First thing to know: this is a midlayer, not a sun shirt. The word “hoody” in the Simms line covers two completely different things, and the Confluence is the warm one — a stretch-woven jacket with a grid fleece back and a full zipper, built to go under a wading jacket or over a sun shirt on a cold morning.
If you came here looking for a lightweight UPF layer for July, you want the SolarFlex Hoody instead. This one is nearly twice the weight.

The detail that shows this was designed by anglers: the chest pockets are positioned to clear waders and bibs. Every midlayer with chest pockets that sit too low becomes useless the moment you put waders on over it. Simms moved them. The hydrophobic lower sleeves matter for the same reason — that is the part that goes in the water when you release a fish.
Sun protection: Simms does not publish a UPF rating for the Confluence. We would rather say that than guess. It is a midlayer, so sun is not what it is for.

Care: Simms does not publish care instructions for this piece. Wash cool and tumble low; avoid fabric softener, which kills a DWR finish faster than anything else. A DWR can be revived with low heat in a dryer once it is clean.
