A button-down fishing shirt with insect repellent built into the yarn. Named for the no-see-ums, which is fair — those are the ones that get through everything else.

How BugStopper works, since nobody explains it

The repellent is Insect Shield. Simms's own description: a long-lasting, EPA-registered insect protection that's built directly into the fabric. Not sprayed on. Not something you wash in. It's there from the start. The active ingredient is permethrin, bonded at the yarn level before the garment is ever made, and Simms says it is designed to last the life of the garment.

The “70 washings” figure you will find online comes from Insect Shield rather than Simms, so we cite it as theirs.

Repels: no-see-ums and biting midges, mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers, ants, and biting flies.

Specifications

Fabric 100% polyester
Weight 115 gsm — light
Insect protection Insect Shield, permethrin bonded at yarn level, EPA registered
Front Button-down
Pockets Two button-closure chest pockets, plus two hidden pockets above them
Sizes S–XXL
Care Machine wash and dry

The hidden pockets are the detail worth knowing. Two of them, sitting above the main chest pockets — that is where a license and a truck key go, out of the way of everything you are constantly reaching for. Most owners do not find them for a season.

Being straight about sun protection: Simms does not publish a UPF rating for this shirt. That is worth knowing on a bug-and-sun shirt. If a rated UPF number matters to you, the BugStopper SolarFlex Hoody is UPF 50+ with the same Insect Shield treatment, and the Big Sky shirts are UPF 50+ with a vented back. Both stocked here.
