Why we point most people to rubber. Felt grips slick, algae-covered rock better than any rubber compound — that part is true and worth respecting. But felt stays wet and holds mud and organisms far longer, which makes it a much better carrier of whirling disease spores and didymo from one drainage to the next. Colorado has not banned felt, but whirling disease has a history in these waters. Rubber plus studs gets you most of the traction with far less risk.

We stock the Clearwater in felt as well if you fish a single home river and prefer it. Either way: scrub, rinse, and dry your boots completely before moving between rivers.

Sizing: boots go over your wader booties, so plan on roughly a full size up from your street shoe, with half sizes rounding up. Too tight is how cold feet start; too loose rolls ankles.

Bring your waders in and try them on over the top — it is the only way to be sure. Call 970-964-9991 and we will have sizes ready when you arrive.

Guarantee: covered by Orvis's guarantee. Bring them to us and we will start the claim.
