The Mirage is Orvis's flagship saltwater and big-game reel — fully machined aluminum with a sealed carbon-and-stainless drag, built in sizes that run from a trout 3 weight all the way to a 15 weight bluewater rod. This is the reel behind Orvis's most serious fish.

Shallow or Deep in size VI? The shallow spool is for 11–13 weight lines where you want the reel to stay as light as possible; the deep spool takes 13–15 weight lines and the maximum backing for fish that will genuinely run. If you are not sure which your trip calls for, call us — that is a five-minute conversation that saves a bad afternoon.

Mirage or Mirage LT? The LT is the lighter, trout-focused build and goes down to a 1–3 weight — the better pick if the reel will live on a trout river. The standard Mirage is the heavier-duty saltwater platform and is the one to take to the tropics. We stock both.
