The 945 is Warren Osborne's 940 scaled down — the same reverse tanto geometry and the same AXIS lock in a knife that starts at two ounces and opens to 6.76".
The size difference matters more than the numbers suggest. The full-size 940 is a knife you notice in a pocket. The Mini is one you forget about, which for a lot of people means it is the one that actually gets carried. The blade drops from 3.4" to 2.92" — still plenty for anything an everyday knife is asked to do, with the same steel behind the tip and the same long flat belly for slicing.
Every version shares that geometry. What changes is the steel and the handle material.
Choosing your Mini Osborne
CPM-S30V (Green Aluminum, Black & Blue G10) is the original specification — stainless, forgiving, and easy to bring back on an ordinary stone. The G10 scales are layered black over a blue base, so the milling cuts through to the colour underneath, and G10 grips better than aluminum when your hands are wet.
CPM-MagnaCut (Burnt Copper) holds an edge like a tool steel while resisting corrosion better than most stainless. A knife that lives in a boat bag or a wading jacket takes more moisture than most everyday carries ever see, and MagnaCut handles it with nothing more than a wipe-down.
Bohler M390 (Denim Micarta) is the longest-lasting edge in the range and the lightest build at just under two ounces, with no maintenance penalty.

Worth knowing before you choose
- Denim micarta changes with use. It is compressed resin-soaked canvas — textured, warm in the hand, and it develops its own patina. No two end up looking the same. It is also the least tactical-looking knife Benchmade makes, with one of their best steels in it.
- Battlewash hides wear. The DLC finish on the Burnt Copper is tumbled, so scratches disappear into the pattern. The satin versions show their miles more honestly.
- G10 for wet hands. If you are choosing between the aluminum and the G10 purely on feel, the G10 has the better grip when things are slick.
