Built in Colorado after Abel's move to trout country, it scales the award-winning SDS saltwater drag down to a river reel: a fully sealed stainless steel and carbon fluoropolymer drag with zero to ten pounds of pressure, an adjustment range nearly three times wider than the original SD, and virtually no start-up inertia. It protects 6X on a size 16 and still stops a thick-shouldered brown.

This one wears the Solid Native Brook finish — a brook trout flank hand-painted by Abel's in-house artists, who have painted thousands of reels over 25 years — with a matching Native Brook drag knob and genuine Rosewood handle. No two come out of the paint room exactly alike. Sized 4/5, it balances everything from a small-stream 3-weight to a 5-weight on the home water, with a large arbor, quick-change spool, and user-convertible retrieve.
