The Grip is Galvan's fully sealed reel, and it is the one to buy if your reel is going to get wet in ways a normal reel should not. The entire drag stack sits inside a watertight Water Lock hub — only anodized aluminum is exposed to the outside world.

Machined from 6061-T6 bar stock in Sonora, California, same as every Galvan.

Finish: clear reel with a blue or black hub. Galvan also builds the Grip in 5, 6 and 7 weight — ask and we will order one in. Check the dropdown for current availability and pricing.

What the sealed hub actually buys you

  • Water Lock hub — the drag is encased. Submersion, spray, sand and salt stay out.
  • Two hybrid ceramic bearings — they do not corrode the way steel does.
  • Increased carbon fiber content in the drag stack for more stopping power at the top end.
  • Quick-turn knob for fast spool release and drag access.
  • Oversized handle — easier to hold onto with wet or cold hands.

Grip or Torque?

The Torque is the better value and the right reel for most freshwater and most flats fishing — rinse it and it lasts decades. The Grip earns its premium when the reel is genuinely going to be submerged, doused, or dragged through sand: skiff decks that take spray, wade fishing in surf, beach work, or long saltwater trips where you cannot baby your gear.

Buy the Grip for the conditions, not for the badge. If you are honest that your reel lives in a boat bag and sees rinse water, the Torque is plenty.

Two things to know

  • Retrieve change requires removing the hub — unlike the tool-free pawl flip on the Torque and Rush Light. Not hard, but it is not a streamside job. Tell us which hand you reel with and we will set it up before you leave.
  • Spools do not interchange with Torque or Rush Light. Grip spools are their own part.

Warranty: lifetime to the original owner, parts and workmanship, from an authorized dealer.
