The Echo Ion XL proves a saltwater rod at this price does not have to fish like a broomstick. Where budget salt rods often end up as coat hangers, the Ion XL brings a genuinely low swing weight and a forgiving action that make it a pleasure to cast all day.
That versatility shows on the water: it is equally comfortable stripping flesh flies for big trout and dropping a crab pattern to a tailing permit. Salt-corrosion-resistant components throughout mean it holds up to the abuse of a real saltwater season.
