Winner of Best New Freshwater Reel for 2018 by Fly Fisherman Magazine and Best of Show at the 2017 ICAST/IFTD industry trade show, the Sealed Drag Fresh (SDF) was born when Abel moved to Colorado and the surrounding trout water inspired the team to take freshwater performance to a new level. The result is a sealed drag freshwater reel with the kind of stopping power and refinement once reserved for saltwater.

Built for 5 and 6 weight rods, the SDF is the do-everything trout reel for serious anglers. Whether you are throwing big streamers for browns on the Gunnison, swinging soft hackles on the Uncompahgre, or running heavy nymph rigs through tailwater seams, the SDF's stainless steel and carbon fluoropolymer drag delivers up to 10 pounds of stopping power with virtually zero start-up inertia. The drag adjustment range is nearly three times that of its predecessor, giving you fine control on light tippet and serious authority when a hot fish runs.

The SDF is built on the same award-winning architecture as Abel's saltwater SDS, scaled down with the porting, finish, and feel that only an Abel reel delivers.
