The ESN is Sage's dedicated euro nymphing rod, and it is built around the two things that discipline actually demands: a tip soft enough to register a fish breathing on the fly, and balance. The KonneticHD blank keeps the swing weight down, and — the clever part — Sage put the reel seat at the very bottom of the handle in a down-locking arrangement, which shifts the reel's weight rearward to counterbalance a long rod held out in front of you all day.
We stock the complete ESN lineup, all four models. Handcrafted on Bainbridge Island, Washington.

Picking one
- The standard answer: the 10' 3 weight. It handles the widest range of nymph rigs and water.
- Small flies, spooky fish, thin tippet: the 2 weight. The softest tip in the series protects 6X and 7X.
- Bigger rivers, longer drifts: the 10'6" 3 weight buys another half foot of reach and drift control.
- Heavier rigs and bigger fish: the 4 weight.
Pair it right: a euro rod balances or it does not, and the reel decides. The Sage ESN reel was designed alongside this rod with adjustable weights for exactly that reason — bring your setup in and we will balance it on the rod before you buy anything. Galvan's G.E.N. is the other purpose-built option we stock.
