Everything you need in one case: the Sage Foundation rod matched with a Sage Spectrum C reel, a RIO Gold floating line, backing, and a tapered leader. Open the case, string it up, go fishing. This is the outfit we recommend most often to people getting serious about fly fishing — nothing in it needs upgrading for years.

Which size? If it is your first outfit and you fish trout, take the 590-4 and do not overthink it. The 4 weight if your water is small and your flies are mostly dries; the 6 if wind and streamers are your normal; the 7 or 8 if bass, salmon, or salt is the plan.
Why buy the kit instead of piecing it together? The math favors the outfit — the bundled reel and line cost meaningfully less than buying each separately, and everything is matched so there is no guessing whether the line loads the rod. The rod is the same Foundation we sell on its own, not a downgraded kit version.
Warranty: Sage original-owner warranty against defects on the rod and reel.
We will string it up and let you cast it before you leave. Ed's Fly Shop, 432 E Main St, downtown Montrose, Colorado.
