Lining a two-hander is the whole game. Sage publishes grain windows for the two most popular trout-spey-adjacent models: the 5126-4 runs a 350–400 grain Skagit or 300–350 grain Scandi, and the 6126-4 runs 400–450 Skagit or 350–400 Scandi. For the other models, call us — we line spey rods all the time and will set you up with the right head, running line, and tips in one conversation.
Picking one
- Great Lakes or smaller steelhead water: the 12'6" 6 or 7 weight is the do-most rod.
- Winter steelhead, big rivers, heavy tips: the 13'6" 7 weight or 14' 8 weight.
- Trout spey curious: the 11'6" models swing soft hackles and small streamers all day.
Sonic Spey or R8 Spey? The R8 Spey (which we also stock) is Sage's flagship two-hander — lighter in hand, more refined blank, and Sage publishes full grain windows for every model. If spey is your main game, the R8 is worth the extra money. The Sonic gets you a legitimate Sage two-hander at the friendliest price they make one.
