The CFO is the most storied reel Orvis makes. A click-and-pawl trout reel whose design has been on the water since the 1970s, still made the way it should be: machined aluminum, a ported classic arbor, and a clicker that is genuinely part of the pleasure of playing a fish.
People do not buy a CFO because it out-drags something. They buy it because it is beautiful, it weighs almost nothing, and it belongs on a bamboo, glass, or small-graphite rod in a way no large-arbor disc reel ever will.

Pair it with: an Orvis Superfine Glass or Superfine Graphite. A CFO on a 7'6" Superfine is one of the nicest small-stream outfits we sell, and we keep both on hand so you can hold the combination before you buy it.
A word on click-pawl: you slow a fish by palming the rim, not by turning a knob. On trout rods this is not a limitation — it is the reason people love these reels. If you would rather have a disc drag, the Battenkill Disc gives you the classic look with the six-surface Hydros SL drag inside; the Mirage LT gives you a fully sealed drag in a modern large arbor. Both stocked.
