The Superfine Graphite is the small-water specialist for anglers who want the delicacy of a Superfine with a little more crispness than glass. Short, light, full-flexing rods in line weights most manufacturers do not bother building — including a genuine 1 weight.

These are presentation rods. They are built to lay a size 18 dry on the water without a sound at twenty feet, protect 6X, and turn a modest trout into a memorable one.

The lineup we carry

Length Line Pieces Best for
7' 6" 1 wt 4 The purist's rod — tiny dries, spring creeks
7' 9" 2 wt 4 Small streams, delicate work
7' 6" 3 wt 4 Brushy creeks
7' 11" 4 wt 4 Small water, a touch more reach
7' 9" 5 wt 4 The most versatile Superfine

All four-piece. Current pricing is on the selector above.

Picking one

  • Most people: the 7'9" 5 weight — short-rod feel with enough line weight to be practical.
  • Technical spring creeks: the 1 or 2 weight. These are not beginner rods; they are what you buy after you already own the practical ones.
  • Brushy small streams: the 7'6" 3 weight.

Superfine Graphite or Superfine Glass? Both are short, both are delicate. Glass is slower and deeper-loading with more feel at very close range; graphite is crisper and recovers faster, so it handles a breeze and a slightly longer cast better. We stock both — casting them back to back on the lawn settles it in five minutes.

Pair it with: something light. A Battenkill Click or an Orvis CFO keeps the whole outfit in balance — hanging a heavy large-arbor reel on a 1 weight defeats the purpose.

Warranty: the Orvis 25-Year Guarantee. Original owner, proof of purchase may be required, modest processing fee on repairs.
