Petitjean Round Magic Head — Two Kinds of Action from One Tying Component

The Petitjean Round Magic Head changes the way you fish and the way fish react to your flies. It is a soft, lightweight head that gives the tyer real control over how a fly moves in the water, and it does it without any of the trade-offs that usually come with adding a head to a pattern.

The Magic Head is genuinely versatile. Tie it pointing backwards and your fly takes on a normal streamer-style action, with up-and-down head movement on the strip. Flip it forwards and the same fly comes alive with side-to-side wiggling action instead. One component, two completely different presentations, decided by how you tie it.

It is also easy to work with at the vise. The head is soft and lightweight, it does not reduce the hook gap, and it does not require a rotating device to tie. Made from a non-toxic component, it will not break or damage your rod tip if a fly is accidentally wound back into the guides.

Tying Recommendations

• Straight eye hooks are recommended, especially in small sizes
• To weight the fly, use brass or tungsten eyes below the hook shank, heavy wire along the shank and bend, or a bead set up to the eye before applying the Magic Head
• Tying materials on top help keep the weight of the hook bend balanced with the head
