Ross reels are machined about a mile from our front door. Every one is designed, machined, anodized, and assembled in Montrose, Colorado, from raw bar-stock aluminum, in a shop on the banks of the Uncompahgre. We are the hometown fly shop for the hometown reel — and we have been selling them since long before it was a marketing angle.
The Evolution LTX is Ross's lightweight performance reel: a stacked-disc drag built on the Evolution R's engineering with over four times the drag strength of the old Evolution LT, in a frame that stays under 5 ounces at every size. It is the reel we hang on more customer trout rods than anything else in the shop.

Picking one
- Small streams and light rods: the 3/4 at 4.2 oz.
- The everyday trout reel: the 4/5 on an 8½–9 foot 4 or 5 weight.
- The Gunnison workhorse: the 5/6 — our most-sold size, and the right call if one reel has to do everything.
- Streamers, bass, light salt: the 7/8 with 175 yards behind a 7 weight line.
Details that matter
- Frame and spool machined from a 6061-T6 aluminum alloy engineered specifically for Ross
- Stacked-disc drag developed from the Evolution R system
- Signature bell-shaped large arbor that self-levels line across the spool face — no thumb-guiding required
- Line channel hides the arbor knot so it never catches
- Oil-impregnated bronze bushing on a stainless steel spindle
- Machined canvas phenolic handle
- Hard-anodized in-house in Montrose, in a closed-loop zero-discharge facility that keeps every drop out of the Uncompahgre
Spare spools: LTX spools are stocked here in matching finishes — pre-rig a sink tip and swap in seconds.
Stepping up within Ross: if you want a fully sealed drag — seven bonded carbon fluoropolymer and stainless discs, effectively zero start-up inertia — the Evolution R is the next rung, and we stock it.
Custom color? Ross will engrave any anodized reel, and they run fly-shop-exclusive finishes through the year. Ask us and we will find out what is in the tank this month.
Warranty: Ross limited lifetime warranty to the original owner, and it applies only to reels bought from an authorized dealer — which we are. Service happens at the Montrose factory, typically inside four weeks. If something goes wrong, you can hand it to us in person.
