The Flyweight is the boot for anglers who walk to their water. Simms rates it the lightest boot in their line, and pairs that with a 4-out-of-5 traction rating — the same Vibram Idrogrip with Traction Lug found on the G3 Guide.
It is the only freshwater boot where Simms specifically calls out drain holes, which tells you what it was designed around: getting water out fast so you are not carrying a river up the trail.
Construction
- TPU-based synthetic woven upper with a molded rubber toe wrap and abrasion panels
- Vibram Idrogrip outsole with Traction Lug; studdable
- Drain holes for fast water evacuation
- High-cushion dual-density EVA midsole — built for miles, not just wading
- Re-soling available through Simms
- Width D, sizes 7–14

Read this before you order: the width is different. The Flyweight is a D width. Every guide boot Simms makes — G3, Freestone, Tributary — is EEE. That is a substantial difference, and it is the single most common surprise with this boot. If you have a wide foot, or you run thick wader booties or heavy socks, this may be too narrow. If you have a normal-to-narrow foot and you hike to fish, it will feel far better than a guide boot.
How Simms rates it
| Boot | Rubber traction | Ankle support | Weight | Width |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flyweight | 4 / 5 | 3 / 5 | Lightest | D |
| Freestone | 3 / 5 | 4 / 5 | Medium | EEE |
| G3 Guide | 4 / 5 | 5 / 5 | Heaviest | EEE |
Same traction as the G3 Guide at a fraction of the weight — the trade is ankle support. If you wade heavy water or want maximum stability, the G3 Guide is the boot; we stock it in Vibram and felt.
Pairs naturally with the Simms Flyweight Packable Wader for a complete hike-in setup.
Sizing: boots go over wader booties, so Simms says size one full size up from your street shoe, and half sizes round up. Given the narrower D width, this is a boot to try on rather than order blind. Bring your waders by, or call 970-964-9991 and we will pull sizes.
Warranty: defects in workmanship and materials covered; wear damage repaired for a reasonable fee. The 60-day and one-year terms apply to waders only.
