Simms is honest about what this one is: slip into the backyard or around town. The Tailout is the shirt you wear after fishing, or on days when you are fishing casually enough that comfort beats technical performance.
It is the only cotton-dominant shirt in the Simms line — 60% cotton — and that is the whole point. It feels like a shirt rather than gear.

Being straight with you about the cotton. Cotton holds water and dries slowly. That is fine on a patio and genuinely bad if you get soaked on a cold day — a wet cotton shirt pulls heat out of you. So: great for summer evenings, drift boat float trips in warm weather, and the drive home. Not the shirt for a chilly April morning wading deep.
For that, take the Challenger (100% polyester, vented back, hidden zip pocket) or a Big Sky at UPF 50+. Both on our site.
Simms does not publish a UPF rating for the Tailout, and we would rather say so than let you assume it protects you. Treat it as a comfortable shirt, not sun gear.
Snaps over buttons is an underrated feature on the water — one-handed, and they do not fail when you are trying to get out of a shirt in a hurry.
