Hareline Chironomid Braid is a fine pearlescent braid built for the job stillwater tyers care most about: a slim, segmented, translucent pupa body that still throws light. Wrap it over a bare hook shank or a colored thread underbody and the braid picks up whatever is underneath, so one card covers a lot of chironomid shades.
Why It Works:
Most flash braids are too coarse for a size 14 or 16 chironomid — you get three turns and a lumpy body. This one is woven thin enough to wrap tight and taper naturally, and the braid structure gives you real segmentation instead of the flat sheen of a tinsel. Counter-wrap it with fine wire and the body holds up to a season of lake fish.
Product Features:
- Fine diameter — wraps clean on size 12–18 chironomid and midge hooks
- Braided structure gives natural segmentation, not a flat sheen
- Translucent; takes on the color of the underbody beneath it
- Also good for small nymph bodies, ribbing and buzzer shucks
- Made in the USA
Ed's Take:
This is a Ridgway and Crawford Reservoir material more than a river one. Pearl Black over black thread is the chironomid body we sell the most of; Pearl Red fishes as a blood midge and comes into its own in the spring; Silver is the one to grab when the pupa are chrome and rising through clear water. Tie them on a 2.4mm black tungsten bead with a white ostrich gill and fish them deep under an indicator.
