The Trout Spey HD is Sage's dedicated trout spey rod — KonneticHD blanks scaled down to 1 through 5 weights for swinging soft hackles, wet flies, and streamers on trout water. This is not a cut-down steelhead rod; it was designed from scratch for light heads, light tips, and fish measured in inches, not feet. On the Gunnison or the lower Uncompahgre in the shoulder seasons, it turns a walk-and-swing afternoon into the most relaxing fishing there is.

Picking one
- Soft hackles and small wets: the 2 weight is pure joy on medium water.
- The all-rounder: the 3 weight swings everything from soft hackles to small sculpin patterns — our most recommended trout spey.
- Streamers and tips: the 4 or 5 weight throws T-8 and weighted flies without strain, and doubles as a light steelhead rod.
HD or the Trout Spey G5? We stock both. The G5 (on Sage's G5 blank) is the friendlier price and a fine way into the game. The HD's KonneticHD blank is lighter, crisper, and recovers faster — if you already know you love swinging flies, the HD is the one you will not outgrow.
