The Brookie is Galvan's small-stream reel and the lightest thing they machine — the 0/1 weighs 2.54 oz. Fully machined 6061-T6 bar stock in Sonora, California, with a frame built from eight pieces total. There is almost nothing in it to fail.

Important — this reel does not have a disc drag
The Brookie uses Galvan's Tension System: an adjustable click-and-pawl with an Ertalyte TX plunger on a silicone spring, tuned with an Allen wrench. It is set at the factory to stop spool overrun, and it is designed to be palmed, not cranked down on.
That is exactly right for the water it is built for — small streams, light tippet, fish you play by hand. It is exactly wrong if you expect to put the brakes on something that runs. If you need a real drag in this size range, the Torque T-3 or T-4 is the reel to look at instead.
Picking one
- Dedicated small-stream rig? B 2/3 on a 3 weight is the classic pairing.
- Balancing a light modern rod? Match the size to your line weight and let the reel's weight do the balancing — these are light enough that a 4 weight rod will feel tip-heavy with anything much lighter.
- Ultralight build? The B 0/1 at 2.54 oz is about as light as a fully machined American reel gets.
