When I received the vise, i wanted to try removing the head from the stem. The brass knob was completely stuck. No amount of strength would unscrew this. I had to run the screw under warm water for 30 seconds, then wrap the brass screw in a grippy hand towel, then use an adjustable wrench to slowly remove the screw without damaging the brass knob.
After removing the screw, i noticed green paint remnants all over the screw and thread. Looks like the inner thread was painted and gummed up the screw thread, locking them together. I had to use a dental pick and wire brush to clean off the screw thread so this wouldn’t happen again.
This is a great vise, very sturdy, no plastic anywhere. But be wary of getting a custom color. It’s probably an uncommon issue but i was the unlucky one.
