The Trout Spey G5 is the easiest way into swinging flies for trout — a purpose-built two-hander on Sage's proven G5 blank at the friendliest price Sage puts on a spey rod. Smooth, forgiving action that makes learning Skagit and Scandi casts feel natural instead of frustrating.

We stock all three models. Handcrafted on Bainbridge Island, Washington.

Full lineup — with Sage's grain windows

Model Line Grain window Length Pieces Weight
3113-4 3 wt 250–300 gr 11' 3" 4 4¹⁄₁₆ oz
4113-4 4 wt 300–350 gr 11' 3" 4 4³⁄₁₆ oz
5113-4 5 wt 350–400 gr 11' 3" 4 4¼ oz

All four-piece. Current pricing is on the selector above.

Picking one

  • First trout spey rod: the 3 weight. Light heads, soft hackles, easy learning curve.
  • One rod for swinging everything: the 4 weight handles wets through mid-size streamers with light tips.
  • Streamer-heavy or doubling for small steelhead: the 5 weight.

G5 or the Trout Spey HD? We stock both. The HD's KonneticHD blank is noticeably lighter and quicker-recovering, and the lineup runs down to a 1 weight — if swinging flies becomes your thing, that is the upgrade path. The G5 is the smart way to find out whether it becomes your thing.

Lines: a Skagit or Scandi head inside the grain window, running line, and light tips. Call us and we will build the complete setup — the line pairing is most of the game in trout spey.
