The saltwater Asquith — G. Loomis's flagship, and the only fly rod in their catalog whose blank is rolled outside the United States. Blanks come from Shimano's Spiral X facility in Kumamoto, Japan, then are hand-finished in Woodland, Washington.

Why Spiral X matters more in salt than anywhere else. The three-layer construction — core, longitudinal middle, reverse-axis fiber outer — exists to reduce ovalization under load. A blank flattening under a hard double haul into wind is exactly where a saltwater rod loses energy, and it is exactly the load Spiral X was built to resist. G. Loomis: virtually instantaneous power transmission, whether generating high line speed during the cast or maintaining control when fighting powerful fish.

Worth asking about before you order. G. Loomis redesigned the Asquith for 2026, moving to Spiral X Core with Toray Nanoalloy resin, Fuji T3 black titanium SiC strippers, black PVD recoil snakes, and a new curved fixed-hood reel seat with refined knurling for better clamping. If you are spending Asquith money, you want to know which generation is in the tube. Call 970-964-9991 and we will find out for you.

Components

  • Spiral X blank, three-layer construction, rolled in Kumamoto, Japan
  • Flor-grade cork — highest grade made, unique to Asquith in this line
  • Titanium SiC guides throughout
  • Custom aluminum reel seat with fighting butt
  • Aluminum rod tube and cloth bag included
  • Hand-finished in Woodland, Washington

The alternative: the NRX+ Saltwater is American-rolled, extra-fast, with titanium SiC strippers and AAA cork — an excellent rod for a good deal less. The NRX+ T2S is the two-piece tournament build if travel is your constraint. Both stocked.

Planning a trip? Call us. We will match the weight to the fish and the wind, line it, and check backing and knots before you fly. Rinse everything in fresh water at the end of each day — especially a rod with hardware this good.

Warranty: limited lifetime to the original owner, proof of purchase required, non-transferable. Accidental breakage runs through Xpeditor for a set fee, tiered by series with Asquith highest. Call us for current terms — G. Loomis's site is offline for rebuilding.
